Responsibilities

• Maintain compliance with municipal, provincial, and federal EHS legislation and requirements. Monitor regulatory developments and communicate necessary changes to management.
• Manage ergonomic assessment activities, identify and evaluate musculoskeletal risks, and implement recommendations to reduce workplace injury exposure.
• Partner with process and manufacturing engineering teams to integrate appropriate safety measures into process development, equipment changes, and capital improvement projects.
• Assess manufacturing operations including machining, casting, assembly, fluid systems, and material handling to identify hazards and implement effective risk-reduction strategies.
• Select and implement appropriate engineering controls, including machine guarding, ventilation systems, safety interlocks, and energy isolation mechanisms, to eliminate or minimize hazards at their source.
• Support the creation, review, and ongoing maintenance of digital safety and environmental work instructions. Establish consistent processes for managing program-related documentation.
• Develop, implement, and maintain EHS programs, policies, and procedures. Conduct regular reviews to ensure programs remain effective and compliant with current requirements.
• Perform workplace hazard assessments, safety risk evaluations, and process hazard analyses. Recommend and follow through on corrective measures where risks are identified.
• Develop and facilitate EHS training programs, ensuring employees understand applicable safety requirements, procedures, and safe work practices.
• Lead investigations into workplace incidents, identify root causes and trends, document findings, and recommend corrective measures to prevent recurrence.
• Perform routine inspections and audits of facilities, equipment, and manufacturing processes. Monitor corrective actions to ensure issues are addressed promptly and effectively.
• Develop and maintain documentation and processes required to support ISO-based environmental and occupational health and safety management systems.
• Work closely with Sales, Human Resources, Operations, Facilities, and other departments to incorporate EHS requirements into business activities and operational decisions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or another closely related technical discipline.
• Additional education or graduate-level coursework in EHS, industrial hygiene, process safety, or a related field is considered an asset.
• Minimum 3 years of progressive EHS experience within a manufacturing, heavy industrial, or process engineering environment.
• Hands-on experience with Process Safety Management (PSM), Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), Management of Change (MOC), or similar risk-management programs.
• Demonstrated ability to lead incident investigations, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions that address systemic issues.
• Working knowledge of industrial manufacturing environments, with exposure to machining, casting, welding, fluid power systems, material handling, or comparable processes strongly preferred.
• Strong understanding of ergonomic hazards, workplace risk assessment practices, and hazard control methodologies. Knowledge of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 requirements is an asset.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills. Comfortable working with EHS management systems and delivering employee training.
• Highly detail-oriented, proactive, and able to manage priorities independently while working effectively across departments. Demonstrates a strong commitment to workplace safety, environmental responsibility, and continuous improvement.
